the penguin told me to do it.

By way of guidance on what some have referred to as “the Hipster PDA”

merlin:

It really makes no sense to me.

Understandable.

In short, this is for:

  1. writing something down
  2. doing something about it

My first thought was that it’s because my brain rejects any sort of organization, but that’s not entirely true.

Mm. I guess it could be about organization. For me, it’s more like the opposite of organization.

Really, it’s for writing something down. Then doing something about it.

I mean, I can grasp the idea of, for instance, adding items to a task list in Outlook, where reminders pop up and things are concrete – “Do this by this date or I’ll pop up again in 24 hours.”

You could probably find a way to make it about reminders. But, it’s not actually suited for that. It’s really more for writing something down. Then doing something about it.

Merlin’s post reminds me of the scene in Mrs. Doubtfire when Robin Williams gets the job in the warehouse at the TV studio boxing film canisters.

WILLIAMS: “What do I do?”

NEW BOSS: “Well ya take all these cans – ya box ‘em, ya ship ‘em. Then ya box those cans over there, ya ship them. Then more of them will come in – ya box those, ya ship those. Any questions?”

WILLIAMS: “After ya box ‘em – “

NEW BOSS: “Ya ship ‘em. Lotsa of luck, ya smart ass.”
