new bluegrass musical discoveries.
Just in case you’re staying in on this rainy Saturday, here are a few (new-to-me) bands that I’m listening to.

Chris Thile and Michael Daves — Sleep with One Eye Open
Almost hauntingly simple at times, just the combination of a guitar and mandolin playing traditional bluegrass tunes.

The Sweetback Sisters — Looking for a Fight
High energy, great harmonies. From Brooklyn, NYC!

The Steep Canyon Rangers — Lovin’ Pretty Women
These guys play with Steve Martin on tour and on his two recent bluegrass albums (both of which I highly recommend), but they’ve been making great music for a long time on their own. No matter what flavor of the Rangers you listen to, you’ll be happy.

Pokey LaFarge & the South City Three — Riverboat Soul
Old-timey music that is just plain, old good. Their new album, Middle of Everywhere, also ounds like one to grab when it comes out next month.

The Two Gentlemen Band — ¡Dos Amigos, Una Fiesta!
Just watch this video and you’ll be hooked. I swear.
