Washington Post:

FANTASTIC VIDEO by @washingtonpost’s multimedia team on the birth of the U.S. space program. As former astronaut Robert Crippen said about America’s first shuttle launch: “It was obvious that this was a big deal not only for the country, but for the world.”

AJ Chavar, one of the creators of the video:

One of the coolest things about my job is working with supremely talented and driven people, and collaborating with them on projects. For this video, I took on the role of researching, interviewing and filming the interviews, a type of reporting I thoroughly enjoyed. Alex Garcia had the overarching vision for this project, helped by Jason Aldag, who oversaw a good chunk and helped tremendously with the amount of research he did. Alex and I did the editing (really she did 99% of the editing and I was her cheerleader), Sohail Al-Jamea did the insanely gorgeous animations and motion graphics, and Joel Achenbach wrote the story and helped us visual people edit the script. I’m not going to lie, this project, as all big undertakings seem to be, was a massive headache at times. But I think the end product was totally worth it.
