we just got back from a great night in baltimore for the wedding of alex’s friend julia and her new husband mike. it was a lovely, elegant ceremony followed by a whole lot of drinking, dancing and dinner (not particularly in that order). congrats, julia and mike!

yankee stadium

i got in, pretty much just under the wire. i didn’t think it would happen, since it’s getting closer and closer to october. but since a game got rained out on june 7 (red sox vs. yankees at yankee stadium), bingo. free tickets.

my dad got the tickets for his 30th anniversary with motorola, so they were great seats and perk-tastic. we were just a little around the bend from home plate, in the back. but we had these passes for the sony club lounge deal. whoopdeedo. but they had real beer in there…not just watered down bud. that was worth it. my friend sarah came along and – since neither of us really like baseball or…even pretend to – we were just drinking and eating alot of food all night. by the time the 8th inning rolled around, the yankees had just scored a bunch of runs and got ahead of the red sox, so we knew it was time to get on the subway.

it’s true that leaving the stadium and heading to the 161st D stop is alot like being a herd of cattle. that are moving down a block of new york city street. rushing down the stairs. and being stuffed onto a crowded subway car (without air last night). but the plus was i could take it all the way into brooklyn and everyone leaves at 42nd or 34th to get back out of the city on the other trains.

it was alot of fun, but its hard when you’re not sure who to cheer for. and frankly, i could care less.

some more photos, some showing the red sox / yankee rivalry.

i made friends in burlington, vt.

beer. here. now.

just got back from my first (and possibly only) road trip of this summer. i can proudly say that i’ve been to a state north of massachusetts. here’s the deal: i’ve been very fortunate to travel all over the world since i was young. that was really important to my family. we’ve gone to california, europe, florida [many times], boston, new york, etc. the thing is, we never made it to vermont, new hampshire, or maine. this weekend changed all that. our friend alli is moving to italy for grad school next month, but she’s been working at the magic hat brewery up north all summer. how could we not visit?

anne, kathleen, and i set out for burlington, vt on friday night. we were driving a borrowed pickup truck and hadn’t had an easy day. kathleen drove in providence, ri and picked up anne from the coast guard academy, while i was taking the train into new haven from down here. after a quick stop at my house, we were moving with the road trip mix going strong. we made it up pretty easy, getting in right around 1a. but wait – last call isn’t until 2a in burlington. of course we went out. then slept. that was pretty much the pattern of the weekend. very relaxing. no wake up calls. lots of catching up.

it was great to see everyone, especially since we’re all going back to our different cities now. and we’re getting our next road trip to utah planned to go see more friends. rock.

one last thing: everyone else had a camera except me, which is rare. so i’ve put together a few shots that other folks have taken of burlington. here’s to hoping that no one minds. i’ve linked back to the original page in any event.
